With Earth Day on April 22nd, we thought we'd take a look at the newest battery-free scanner from Honeywell . . . introducing the Xenon 1902g-bf. This image scanner has really gotten our attention! And Performance, Convenience & Versatility are just 3 reasons why!
Bar code scanning technologies continue to evolve. Recently Honeywell, a leader in bar code scanning technologies, launched the Voyager 1202g-bf, a wireless scanner that doesn’t require a battery.
Using Supercapacitors as an Alternate Power Source
Instead of a lithium-ion battery, the Voyager 1202g-bf is powered by supercapacitors (i.e. ultracapacitors); a power source commonly used in industrial products. Supercapacitors are an energy storage technology, but until now, were not a viable option for bar code scanners or other handheld products because they were too big. Honeywell has adapted the technology and the result is a scanner that has widespread application in business.
Why Battery-Free Wireless Scanning Makes Sense?
Time and Cost Savings Advantages
The Voyager 1202g-bf can be fully charged in 35 seconds or less which:
- Eliminates the need to have spare batteries or scanners for use when a battery-powered scanner needs to be charged
- Eliminates the need to take a scanner out of service for an extended period of time to be recharged
The scanning performance of the Voyager 1202b-bf matches that of a battery powered scanner in speed and responsiveness in decoding less than optimum bar codes. The scanner has a performance range of up to 33 feet from the base.
Using a supercapacitor as the source of power eliminates the need to adhere to guidelines for recycling and/or disposal of used batteries making them an environmentally superior alternative to batteries.
